How can we make our Community Network self-sustaining?
ANN ARBOR, MI, Mar. 8, 2004 (U. of Michigan School of Infomation [SI695-2 class], by Meredith Bauch) - There will never be one set answer to this question, as each community network is unique and will look for funding in different places. If I had to name a single quality for sustainability it would be resourcefulness in searching for funds. Click - http://www.si.umich.edu/Community/faq/sustain.html .

What Do We Mean By Self-Sustaining?
SEATTLE, WA, Mar. 19, 2004 (Raising More Money) - We often refer to the Raising More Money ModelĀ® as a model for building a self-sustaining individual giving program. Just what does that mean? What would it look like if your organization had an individual giving program that was self-sustaining? And how would you even know if you had one? By self-sustaining we mean self-generating. It would be a system that, by itself, generated more happy donors who kept giving money to your organization. Read more: http://www.raisingmoremoney.com/stories/storyReader$834.

Sustaining Community Organizations / Neighbourhoods
Dealing with Budget Cuts
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, June, 2003 (Neighborhood Planning for Community Revitalization) - Several organizations and collaborations have succeeded in securing and generating funds despite the challenges faced by many neighborhood organizations. These successful organizations have four common characteristics including: 1) the ability to generate revenue, 2) programs or projects that illicit clear and evaluative results, 3) the ability to see through long-term goals, and 4) internal stability. Three common characteristics exist among successful collaborations including: 1) broad and varied support among collaboration members, 2) vested interests of collaboration participants and funders, 3) and results-based outcomes. To start at the top of the report, called Funding Trends For Neighborhood Organizations in Minneapolis and St. Paul: A Case Study Examination of Organizations and Collaborations for the Center for Neighborhoods. Global Village Overview / Our Choices
Communities Have Impact
WEBSITE Reference, Mar. 19, 2004 (RMI) - Many communities face familiar dilemmas: a healthy economy or high quality of life? jobs or the environment? They're told they have to choose. These are false choices. Degrading the quality of life or trashing the environment for the sake of the economy is not only unnecessary, it's also liable to backfire. In today's global economy, businesses and industries can simply move on to greener pastures. In fact, communities that protect their quality of life and natural assets increase their chances of prospering in the long term. Read more at http://www.rmi.org/sitepages/pid14.php.
