Spanish Speeders
VICTORIA, BC, July, 2004 (EcoNews) - How do you stop people from speeding through residential streets and rural villages? In Europe, where most villages have a road running through them, people have used every kind of warning sign. But now, from Spain, comes the ultimate solution. If you drive into a speed limit area at too great a speed, a traffic light is triggered to go red as you approach. Instant results! (Why didn’t we think of this before?) Work Life Balance – Family First Policy
VICTORIA, BC, July 16, 2004 (Quality of Life Challenge) - "It is quite possible to do exceptionally well in business while improving your surroundings and the lives of those around you along the way." - Gregg Miekeljohn, Zen Marketing Group. Small business owners may hold a perception that human resource policies that affect the quality of life of their staff can only be maintained by big companies that have the money and staff time to support them. Gregg Meiklejohn, with the Zen Marketing Group, has proven that it is possible to be innovative and effective in helping staff, even in a small business. The team members working within the Zen Marketing Group focus on creating results for clients while managing their own schedules, keeping track of their time. Rather than punching a clock, team members work within a general block of assigned time on a project. Attached to the time inventory are desired client results. This system works very well as the client gets excellent work rate and results while Zen team members are empowered (by maintaining their own work schedules) to ensure first and foremost their respective families are nurtured and supported.

Shared Services Co-operative Pilot Project on the Vancouver Islands: Report from Frank Moreland
VANCOUVER ISLAND, July 20, 2004 (SSFPA) - The project has begun, and the Small Scale Food Processors Association Board of Directors is working hard to have the official media release sometime in September regarding the incorporation of a for-profit shared services co-operative. Many of the details of the project are in negotiation during the summer, but I can describe the four general fee-for-service packages that are under development.

Many of the details of the project are in negotiation during the summer, but I can describe the four general fee-for-service packages that are under development.
- Business-To-Business data synchronization.
- Buying club including everything from jars to merchandising to marketing to retail.
- Food Broker Service in four market streams, to provide high quality regional branded foods and beverages to the high volume disposable income consumers.
- As profit allows, non-market services to be delivered by the SSFPA, peer-to-peer mentoring etc.
