Riding and Community Building: The Story of the Richmond Theraputic Equestrian Society
WEB Reference, Nov. 2004 (Marlene Parsons) - Citizens involved in building their community do not simply take what is offered and hope they find what they need; rather, they actively participate in the very shaping of the community's services, resources, and attitudes. In this article we will see how, through the efforts of families and individuals, a community can and is being built for the benefit of people with disabilities. This is community development at the grass roots-where, out of caring for each other, citizens contribute what they can to making their community a better place to live. http://www.lin.ca/resource/html/Vol23/v23n1a4.htm.

What is Green Economics?
TORONTO, ON, Nov. 26, 2004 (Green Economics Website - Eco-Materials Project) - Green economics is the economics of the real world—the world of work, human needs, the Earth’s materials, and how they mesh together most harmoniously. It is primarily about "use-value", not "exchange-value" or money. It is about quality, not quantity for the sake of it. It is about regeneration---of individuals, communities and ecosystems---not about accumulation, of either money or material. http://greeneconomics.net/what2f.htm.

The Earth Charter & Local Communities
GALT, CA, Nov. 17, 2004 (CIP News, by Carol Brodie) - In 1987 the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development issued a request for the formation of a new charter that would outline the major principles for sustainable development. The drafting of such a charter went through several starts and stops; however, a new, exciting phase in the initiative began with the official launching of the Earth Charter at the Peace Palace in The Hague on June 29, 2000. The mission of the Charter is to establish a sound ethical foundation for the emerging global society, and to help build a sustainable world "based on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace."
