Theraputic Farming and Gardening Lifestyle Choices
NANAIMO, BC, Feb. 06, 2004 (CIP, Farmers & Families Research) - Providence Farm in Duncan offers Horticultural Therapy Courses, but simply visiting the farm is therapeutic. At the base of Mount Tzouhalem, in the midst of 400 acres owned since 1864 by the Sisters of St. Ann, are gardens both aesthetic and nourishing. In mid-winter, there is purple cauliflower and purple broccoli. There are beds raised high enough for wheelchair occupants and for seniors who have difficulty bending over. Most inspiring, however, is a year-round salad garden inside a simple plastic hoop greenhouse.
