Self-sufficiency in Growing Food
ELIST, Oct. 30,2005 (Vera Gottlieb) - Re: Mounting evidence that world oil has peaked (Oil Peak in 2005? - http://www.lulu.com/allenadale) Vera Gottlieb suggests, "Small communities would be wise to start a "garden" program in order to remain fairly self-sufficient in food. See: www.growarow.org. Plant a Row·Grow a Row helps to feed those who are hungry as well as feed the soul of our communities and neighbourhoods. A handful of seeds, a method to link donations with those in need and a love of gardening are some of the features that make this program work. And while dollars are always nice, the most important currencies in this program are energy, a connect-the-dots attitude and involvement from members of your community.

Yale Student Farm Makes the Campus What It Is
WEB Reference, July 25, 2003 (Yale Bulletin & Calendar) - People walking down the tree-lined block of Edwards Street between Whitney and Prospect streets will notice that an area the size of a football field, which had been an overgrown tangle of hemlocks and brush in May, is now a lush vegetable garden. The garden, its neat rows overflowing with abundant and variegated crops separated by long turf paths, marks the newest phase of Yale College's Sustainable Food Initiative. The nine laborers industriously pushing wheelbarrows, planting seedlings and uprooting weeds are Yale students interning as organic farmers for the summer. http://www.yale.edu/opa/v31.n33/story2.html.
