Permaculture Possibilities: Creating a Sustainable Future
OLYMPIA, WA, Jan. 31, 2005 (Evergreen College, via EFSWN) – Just one topic from the SYNERGY SUSTAINABLE LIVING CONFERENCE, coming up - Permaculture explores a world that works for all beings. The natural world presents many examples of sustainable design systems and we have the ability to find solutions in nature to problems. The term "permaculture" is a combination of the words "permanent culture". This presentation will introduce participants to the ethics, principles, and practices of permaculture design through slides and various stories shared by Marisha Auerbach, a local permaculture teacher. John Deere and the Bereavement Counselor
GREAT BARRINGTON, Jan. 2005 (E. F. Schumacher Society) - McKnight compares the coming of the professional bereavement counselor in a small community to the coming of the plow to the prairie. The very presence of the social service professional leads neighbors to doubt their adequacy to comfort the new widower or the grieving mother. They turn their faces away rather than exchanging a natural embrace of understanding. That turning away is the beginning of the breakdown of the social soil of community just as the plow broke the age-old top soil of the prairie. John McKnight's 1984 E. F.
