Sustainability Network's Direct Management Assistance (DMA) Program
TORONTO, ON – December 3, 2003 (Sustainability Network) - Please be reminded we are able to provide direct management assistance (ie. a consultant’s time) to Ontario-based environmental groups. Participating organizations need to define their key capacity challenge(s), identify an external management expert who can work with the organization, and evaluate to determine the effect of the intervention. We expect most interventions will cost between $5 000 and $10 000 and take several months to complete. Participating organizations will be required to contribute 10% of the cost of the intervention at the outset. For more information on the program, go to http://sustain.web.net and click on the DMA button. Interested organizations should contact Paul Bubelis (bubelis@sympatico.ca) to discuss project ideas and to obtain a second document that provides complete information on the application process.

Reversing Climate Change

Policy Support Critical to Address Climate Change
BUTTE, MT, December 1, 2003 – (Smart Communities Network - NCAT) - A recent report by the Pew Center on Global Climate Change concludes that government policies will be critical to the development and adoption of new technologies needed to abate global warming. The report, U.S. Technology and Innovation Policies: Lessons for Climate Change, examines U.S. experience with technology and innovation policies - both successes and failure - and draws lessons for climate change policy. "We cannot solve the problem of global climate change without the development of new technologies, but new technologies don't just happen - the market needs a signal, and that signal needs to come from government," said Pew Center President Eileen Claussen. "Well- crafted policies can create a setting for continuing innovation where technological improvements build upon one another." http://www.pewclimate.org/press_room/sub_press_room/november19.cfm
