Global Participation / Empowerment / Climate Change
Global Governanace for Sustainability
SHUSHWAP, BC, Mar. 2004 (Pesky Skeeter, Excerpted from: Tom Atlee - Feb.2004) - If sudden climate change happened next year, what would "we" do about it? Who would decide how it was to be handled? What would special interests do - from financiers to farmers, from global corporations to unions, from media monopolies to the working poor? Who would care for "the common good" - and who would decide what "the common good" was? Would the decisions made about such a crisis be wise - or would they be short-sighted, self-interested and shallow, thus ensuring worsening crises? Would they facilitate positive transformation? We don't know whether sudden climate change will happen starting next year, next decade, or centuries from now (it has happened many times in the prehistoric past and will likely happen again). We will only know that it is happening when it happens. At that point "we" (whoever "we" is) may have only a few months or years to make complex and profoundly significant decisions about how "we" are going to approach it. The time to prepare for crisis is before crisis hits. When we don't know when a crisis will hit, the time to prepare is "the sooner, the better."
