Natural Building / Community Building Apprenticeships Available
Apr. 29, 2004 (O.U.R. EcoVillage) - With added funding we have been able to make a small number of apprenticeships available to those folks we are truly interested in working to create community-based, healthy and affordable development in our homes and neighbourhoods. Greening Rooftops for Sustainable Communities - Portland, Oregon - June 2-4, 2004
E-LIST Reference, May 2004 (Smart Communities Network News) - The 2nd Annual International Green Roof Infrastructure Conference, Awards and Trade Show is co-hosted by Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and the City of Portland. The three day conference will consist of plenary and specialized sessions focused on three main topic areas: Policies and Programs to Support Green Roofs, Green Roof Design and Implementation, and Research and Technical Papers on Green Roof Performance. http://www.greenroofs.ca/grhcc/conference.htm .

Northeast Green Building Award Winners Profiled
E-LIST Reference, May 2004 (Smart Communities Network News) - The 2004 Northeast Green Building Award winners announced in March, are now profiled on the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) website. Categories included Places of Learning, Places of Work, Places to Live, and Student Projects. Winning projects and honorable mention recipients are described and pictured online, including the Capuano Early Childhood Center, The Plaza at PPL Center, Gilman Ordway Building, and Natural Lands Trust Headquarters Expansion.

The Global Future: Peace and Sustainability – Duncan, BC - May 20th
COWICHAN, BC, May 4, 2004 (KAIROS) -One of Canada's leading writers and speakers on the environment, Guy Dauncey, will give a talk in Duncan on "The Global Future: Peace and Sustainability" on Thursday, May 20 at 7pm in the Heritage Hall in the Cowichan Community Centre. The talk will look at the forces that are aligning both for and against global peace and environmental sustainability and how we can help create the positive global future that we want. Guy Dauncey is the editor of the widely-read "EcoNews" monthly newsletter, as well as the author of many articles on environmental, economic and social sustainability, including Stormy Weather: 101 Solutions to Global Climate Change. Guy Dauncey regularly appears on radio and television to discuss sustainability issues. Guy Dauncey also works as a consultant on creating green buildings, buildings which are constructed using recycled materials and which utilize alternative energy sources. The talk will be followed by a discussion. Admission price is $5 and tickets are available at the Cowichan Community Centre. Everyone welcome.
