NORTH SHUSHWAP, BC, Jan. 8, 2004 (The Pesky Skeeter) - Did you know?…A male African elephant can weigh as much as 7,300 kilograms and grow to 4 metres in height. In comparison, the Asian elephant averages 2,300 kilograms in weight and 3 metres in height. The African elephant’s large ears match the shape of the African continent and the Asian elephant’s smaller ears match the shape of India. Adult elephants spend as many as 18 hours a day feeding. They consume 6% to 8% of their own body weight in vegetation and can drink 100 litres of water at once. (Source: WWF-Working for Wildlife; summer 2003; www.wwf.ca )

NORTH SHUSWAP, B.C., Jan., 2004 (The Pesky Skeeter) - By the end of the 1990s, Germany had transformed itself into a renewable-energy leader. With a fraction of the wind and solar resources f the US and Canada, Germany now has almost 3 times as much installed wind capacity (38% of global capacity) and is a world leader in solar photovoltaics as well. And it has created a new multi-billion-dollar industry and tens of thousands of new jobs. The German wind industry now employs more people than nuclear power without a commensurate increase in electricity costs.
