Citigroup Sets New Standard for Environmental Protection
WASHINGTON, DC, Jan. 23, 2004 (IPS,from RAN on OneWorld News) - The Rainforest Action Network announced yesterday a halt to four years of advocacy with Citigroup after the financial giant published a new, comprehensive environmental policy covering deforestation and indigenous rights, endangered ecosystems and no-go zones, greenhouse gases and climate destabilization, and clean energy and sustainable development. VANCOUVER, BC, Feb. 02, 2004 (CIP) - Cutting the Strings of Consumer Puppetry - The typical response that I have repeatedly heard regarding the social and environmental dangers of North American culture (based on consumerism) is “that’s just the way it is. We can’t do anything about it”. People either do not wish to try to change the dehumanizing, unfulfilling and often immoral aspects of our culture because it is too hard and they find it pointless to go against multimillion and multibillion dollar corporations or people wish it could be changed but do not know how to go about it. What many people do not realize is that it is not necessary to be Che Guevera or Ghandi to help start a revolution. Small changes in our daily lives lead to tremendous impacts. Rosa Parks.
