GETTING STARTED

In 2004-5, our work will still be progressing in the Set Up and development phases of our collaborative, co-creating with our senior planning and "contributing" research / writer volunteers only. No active Core volunteer Project Leaders will be beginning until 2006 and beyond.

Most of this section of the website will be added prior to September 2005, which is the beginning of the Recruitment phase for active project planning and operations in Nanaimo.

January, 2006 is also the intended beginning period for our pilot Project Leader "sensitivity" Training Program, which is now being developed in conjunction with volunteer working group staff members from our Malaspina University-College, in Nanaimo.

Other communities in BC and elsewhere are welcome to let us know about their interests in starting similar sister projects wherever and however they wish to initialize such efforts.

For new active CIP Core or Task volunteers thinking of starting in 2006, here's an idea of what you can expect to be involved with in Nanaimo.

Capacity Development & Network Support for Community Self-Reliance Projects

Throughout the coming years, the Community Involvement Project will help to create public awareness and organizational support for grassroots community involvement in local self-reliance initiatives. That means you: your neighbours, friends, family, just about anybody that cares to start working towards a better future!

The purpose of this capacity work is to provide everything that new community self-reliance projects will need to get started and continue working in cooperation with each other. Such Community Involvement 'capacity' work will not only help to develop capacity for the individuals and self-reliance projects themselves, but it will provide cohesion between people and projects, facilitate funding and resource sharing and build new relationships for more and greater multi-partner planning and community involvement in the years to come.
