Volunteering

"A volunteer program is like a garden. Look after it and it will flourish and grow. Leave it to fend for itself and it may wither and fade away. How will your volunteer garden grow?"

The purpose of this information is to bring together basic volunteer policies of the Community Improvement Project working groups (CIP) and guidelines for implementation of flexible, but sound, co-operative volunteer practices for achieving working group strategies.

Definition of 'CIP Volunteer'

A 'volunteer' is anyone who, without compensation or expectation of compensation or reimbursement (other than where agreed to), performs a task, as a gift to the world, either in agreement or in discussion with working group planning members and with the highest integrity of CIP goals. A 'volunteer' is free to contribute in a cooperative manner any positive support toward the goals of sustainability that he or she wishes.

Unless specifically stated, volunteers are in no way considered to be "employees" of CIP.

"May we live with the light we see in each other."

For some volunteers, eight months to a year became the point that they found themselves saying, "Now I get it." I doubt very many of the people involved so far would mind us saying that we often hear phrases like, "Are we ever cool", "We do great stuff" and "This is really exciting!" So, if you're considering making contributions or volunteering to work in groups for sustainable goals, with us, don't let it worry you if it all seems really BIG at first. CIP volunteer orientation will happen slowly, while work is progressing, over time.

The excitement DOES catch on and it's because of the new found "energy of empowerment" that comes from the resource help in Community Update meetings -- people helping people to get things done. This is the attitude we want to see in the community. It's not about money, it's not about wants -- it's about giving to get things done. This is the foundation of all things being possible!

Now that you know a little bit about the Community Involvement Project you will understand that Core volunteer positions can carry somewhat more responsibility (to other people) than the usual volunteer position, as well as much greater freedom to 'choose'. Are you ready for that? What will it mean?
